Internship: Forward Deployed Engineer, Test

Revel

ABOUT REVEL At Revel, we are revolutionizing the way the world’s most critical hardware is controlled—across aerospace, automotive, energy, and manufacturing sectors. Our next-generation software stack combines an intuitive command/control interface, a specialized programming language tailored for hardware control, and a high-performance runtime environment. We empower engineers to build, test, and deploy critical systems rapidly, reliably, and safely. THE INTERNSHIP As a Forward Deployed Test Engineering Intern at Revel, you’ll work at the intersection of software, hardware, and testing to help our customers build and operate better test systems. You’ll work alongside our Forward Deployed Engineering and Software teams to integrate Revel with customer test stands, build test infrastructure, troubleshoot hardware and software issues, develop dashboards and workflows, and help engineering teams get more out of their test operations. You’ll get hands-on exposure to the systems behind aerospace, defense, automotive, energy, and advanced manufacturing. You’ll learn how software, hardware, sensors, data acquisition systems, and test infrastructure come together in real-world environments—and how to diagnose problems when things don't work as expected. This is a highly technical, hands-on internship. You’ll work closely with experienced engineers, take ownership of meaningful projects, and have the opportunity to see your work used with real hardware. WHAT YOU'LL DO - Help deploy and integrate Revel with customer test stands, sensors, actuators, and existing infrastructure - Work alongside customer engineering teams to understand their test processes and identify opportunities to improve them - Build and maintain test infrastructure, dashboards, and software workflows - Write RevelCode and other software to automate and streamline testing - Support data acquisition, telemetry, and hardware validation efforts - Troubleshoot issues across software, networking, firmware, hardware, and physical test systems - Help run and support test campaigns in real-world hardware environments - Deliver training and documentation to help new users get up and running with Revel - Collaborate with internal software and product teams to turn field learnings into product improvements - Occasionally travel to customer sites with the team WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR - Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, Computer Science, or a related technical field - Rising Junior or Senior graduating in 2027 or 2028 - Hands-on experience with engineering projects involving hardware, software, testing, or instrumentation - Strong problem-solving and debugging skills - Basic programming experience in Python, C, C++, or another programming language - Basic understanding of how software, hardware, sensors, and networks interact - Interest in test engineering, embedded systems, robotics, aerospace, automotive, or other hardware-focused environments - Comfortable getting hands-on with physical hardware and troubleshooting problems in real-world environments - Strong written and verbal communication skills - Curious, self-directed, and excited to learn from experienced engineers - Comfortable working in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment - US citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee (ITAR requirement) BONUS POINTS - Experience with data acquisition systems, test stands, instrumentation, or test automation - Experience with sensors, actuators, oscilloscopes, multimeters, or other test equipment - Experience with PLCs, control systems, NI software suite, TwinCAT, or CodeSys - Experience building or maintaining test infrastructure through academic, personal, or previous internship projects - Experience with embedded systems, robotics, aerospace, automotive, or other hardware-focused projects - Proficiency in C, C++, Python, Rust, or other systems programming languages - Familiarity with networking and debugging communication between hardware and software - Startup experience and passion for aerospace, defense, advanced manufacturing, or robotics WHY REVEL - Work on hardware that matters — our customers are building aerospace systems, advanced manufacturing lines, and critical infrastructure - Build and test real things — work directly with the hardware and systems used in real-world engineering environments - Learn from exceptional engineers — work closely with experienced Forward Deployed, Test, and Software Engineers - Get customer exposure — see firsthand how engineering teams design, test, and operate complex hardware - Own meaningful projects — take responsibility for projects that directly impact our customers and product - Grow quickly — work in a small, ambitious team where your contributions are visible INTERNSHIP DETAILS - Program: Summer 2027 Internship - Duration: June - August 2027 - Type: Summer, paid internship - Location: Los Angeles or San Francisco - Work environment: On-site - Travel: Occasional travel to customer sites may be required Join us to redefine what’s possible in software for hardware.
