Forward Deployed Engineer, Intern

Pace

FORWARD DEPLOYED ENGINEER, INTERN Pace is the AI operations platform for insurance, trusted by some of the leading carriers, specialty mutual groups, and tech-forward brokers. Almost $400bn per year is spent on outsourcing in financial services. We’re here to change that, working side-by-side with some of the largest companies in the world. ROLE We’re looking for a Forward Deployed Engineer, Intern to join our Applied AI team for the summer. This is not a typical internship. You’ll be treated as a full member of the team from day one, working directly with our customers, owning a meaningful problem, and shipping solutions that help some of the world’s largest insurers scale their operations with Pace. Depending on your interests and the highest-priority needs of the team, you might: - Work with customers to understand their operations and expand Pace into new use cases - Build AI-powered workflows that solve customers’ most important operational problems - Ship features, integrations, and evaluations in our codebase to unblock deployments - Investigate agent behavior and improve the quality and reliability of customer workflows - Turn patterns across customer deployments into reusable product capabilities You’ll work across customers, Product, and Engineering to take a problem from initial discovery through implementation, deployment, and iteration. INTERNSHIP DETAILS - Duration: 10–14 weeks - Location: In person in New York - Dates: Flexible start dates in May or June - Compensation and Benefits: Competitive compensation and a generous meal stipend for lunch and dinner - Full-time opportunity: Strong performers may be considered for a full-time role after graduation YOUR BACKGROUND You might be a strong fit if you: - Have built something from scratch through a class, research project, internship, startup, open-source contribution, or personal project - Have a strong software engineering foundation and experience programming in at least one language - Enjoy working through ambiguous technical and operational problems - Communicate clearly and are excited to work directly with customers - Take ownership, move quickly, and seek feedback - Care about whether what you build creates a successful outcome for the customer, not just whether the code works - Are excited to work at the intersection of AI, product, engineering, and customer operations Experience with AI systems or enterprise software is helpful but not required. We care more about your technical foundation, rate of learning, and ability to turn complex problems into working solutions than experience with our exact stack. TEAM CHARACTERISTICS The Pace team shares two defining characteristics: 1. Integrity: We want to work with good people committed to doing the best work of their careers. We believe meaningful impact takes sustained focus, and we’re building for the next 5–10 years. 2. Ambition: We’re building more than a successful vertical AI company. We’re pursuing a $100bn+ outcome across vertical services and want teammates whose ambitions match the opportunity—whether they aim to become exceptional individual contributors, lead at scale, or start companies of their own. TRAJECTORY Our goal is to invest in people with exceptional potential and accelerate their growth. If there’s a strong mutual fit, this internship can lead to a full-time Forward Deployed Engineer role after graduation. From there, potential paths include: - Growing into Applied AI leadership - Owning and scaling a product or business line Forward deployed engineering is an ideal path for future founders and business leaders because you’ll learn how to understand customers, build products, and deploy them successfully in the enterprise. We want Pace to be the best place to learn quickly, deliver meaningful impact, and advance your path toward doing something great. At Pace, we’re building a talent-dense team where teammates grow into leaders. This might mean growing into a world-class IC, owning a line of business, or leading teams. Whichever your path, we want to support you to grow at Pace and beyond for the long term. We’re a <40 person team based in person across New York and London. We’re fortunate to be working with leading customers and top investors, with the opportunity to make a real impact on one of the largest industries in the world.
